The entrepreneur Heinz Hermann Thiele, majority shareholder and long-time Chairman of the Executive Board and Supervisory Board of Knorr-Bremse AG, passed away on February 23, 2021, at the age of 79, surrounded by his family in Munich.

Knorr-Bremse CVS plants in Dalian and Shiyan together produce 1 million compressors in calendar year 2020

Knorr-Bremse Braking Systems for Commercial Vehicles (Dalian) Co., Ltd and Knorr-Bremse DETC Commercial Vehicle Braking Technology Co., Ltd together recently celebrated the production record of 1 million compressors for commercial vehicles by the two locations in the calendar year 2020.

This marks a milestone in Knorr-Bremse’s drive to keep pace with accelerating customer demand for core parts in China. Knorr-Bremse is the global market leader for braking systems and a leading supplier of other rail and commercial vehicle systems.

Sustainable public transportation: Pescara to introduce new e-bus system with IMC®500 technology from Kiepe Electric

  • New overhead wire system to link Italian cities of Pescara and Montesilvano on the Adriatic coast with IMC
  • Consortium of Kiepe Electric and Van Hool to supply six zero-emission 18-meter buses with IMC® technology to Pescara public transportation operators TUA.
  • The IMC500 buses will also serve destinations without overhead lines

The new overhead wire system in the Italian city of Pescara will in future charge battery-powered buses equipped with In Motion Charging (IMC®) technology from Kiepe Electric, a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse AG, the global market leader for braking systems and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles.

From mid-2022, a consortium of Kiepe Electric and renowned Belgian bus and commercial vehicle manufacturer Van Hool is to supply six zero-emission 18-meter Exqui.City buses with IMC® technology to Pescara public transportation operators TUA.

Big data: Knorr-Bremse and Deutsche Bahn cooperate on intelligent use of vehicle data

  • Knorr-Bremse and Deutsche Bahn sign cooperation agreement on the intelligent use of train operating data
  • The agreement aims to facilitate condition-based maintenance for rail vehicles, with a view to reducing maintenance costs and enabling data-based services

Knorr-Bremse has signed a cooperation agreement with Deutsche Bahn on the use and analysis of train operating data and vehicle subsystem data. The agreement has an initial term of three years and aims to utilize big data insights to enhance condition-based maintenance of vehicle fleets.

Long-distance mobility: Knorr-Bremse wins equipment contract for Talgo ECx passenger trains

  • Knorr-Bremse and Spanish vehicle manufacturer Talgo sign equipment contract for 23 ECx passenger trains for Deutsche Bahn, with an option for 77 more trains
  • From the first quarter of 2021, Knorr-Bremse will supply braking systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, entrance systems, as well as windscreen wiper units with a total order value in the mid tens of millions (EUR)
  • The new ECx trains will be deployed from 2023 on the Berlin-Amsterdam route and on long-distance services within Germany, contributing to shorter journey times, greater availability and barrier-free mobility

Knorr-Bremse has concluded an equipment contract with the train manufacturer Talgo for 23 new ECx long-distance trains. From 2023, the locomotive-drawn passenger railcars will expand Deutsche Bahn's fleet for national and international long-distance services.

The ECx trains are designed to make journeys faster, more attractive and more comfortable, particularly on the Berlin-Amsterdam route as well as tourist routes to the North Sea and the Alps. The order, with a total volume in the mid tens of millions (EUR), includes the option to equip an additional 77 trains, which would bring the total order to 100 trains.

Knorr-Bremse has been awarded an “A-” rating for its climate protection measures by global not-for-profit environmental organization CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project). This puts Knorr-Bremse at CDP’s Leadership level, ranking among the top 13 percent of its peer group.
